Treatments That I've Tried

(what worked and what didn't)

I have tried a number of different approaches to destroy candida with only some basic success from a few of them. Here's what I have tried in chronological order from Fall 2003 on:

Threelac

Threelac did NOTHING for me. It did not help my brain fog or energy. It did not help my cold hands and feet. It DID make my wallet alot lighter, though. It cost over $100 CAD to get one can of this stuff and I feel like a fool for falling into the trap that so many people at Curezone told me to avoid. Maybe it will work for you (I doubt it will work for anyone) but I want to be clear that I found this stuff useless.

Grapefruit Seed Extract

I had the capsules, 125 mg. I think it may have helped a bit but if you've read my story you'll know that my diet may have been too high in vegetable carbohydrates for this antifungal to work to it's full potential. Personally, I have never heard of anyone who has cured candida using this approach (except for one guy mentioned in a book called Never Be Sick Again written by Dr. Francis). Perhaps if it is coupled with other antifungals it may be more effective.

Garlic

Raw garlic cloves gave me quite a bit of die-off and are supposedly one of the best antifungals. I found them too intense for myself but I have read many postings from people who swear by them.

Colonics

I have had two colonics and they really make you feel clean inside. For those who don't know, colonics are like enemas but are adminstered by a professional and fill, empty and refill the rectum with warm water to clean out impurities. My colonics did not reveal any candida but I have read that it sometimes takes multiple colonics to eventually loosen up candida colonies. I had some die-off reactions from these, however, so if you are planning for one, make sure it's before the weekend.

Enemas

After reading this interesting article by Chet Day on the power of enemas in curing candida, I decided to give it a try. I purchased an enema bag and gave myself probably 15 enemas over the course of 2 months, each time sufferring through minor die-off reaction. I didn't find a great deal of relief from them however you do feel very clean after they are finished. :D

Probiotics

I truly believe that probiotics are very important in the treatment of candida. I took them for a long time but have stopped because they are very expensive. Udo's Choice brand is by far the best I have ever come across.

Meditation/Mantras

I have really found that basic meditating has helped ease my mind and relax me when things get disappointing or when I feel down concerning dysbiosis. The method I use if one that I read in a yoga book and is done by simply concentrating completely on your breathing. Breath slowly and focus one the air entering (preferably) your nose. This concentration forces all negative thoughts out of your mind. The book suggests having your eyes *almost* closed but not quite. I find this induces a sort of hypnotic state.

As far as mantras go, I read of one in a graet book by Dr. Raymond Francis, Never Be Sick Again. His suggestion is to repeat the words "Everyday, in everyway, I am getting stronger and stronger and better and better" - whenever you have a quiet moment to yourself, that is. If you believe that you ARE very ill, you WILL BE very ill but if you believe and convince your body that you are GETTING BETTER you WILL get better. I find the mantra stirs up positive thoughts.

High-Protein, Low Carb Diet

The most effective approach I have come across so far. As addressed by Dr. Atkins in his books and on his website. Atkins has written that candida can be overcome in roughly 6 weeks following a VERY low (or no) carb diet and by avoiding mold containing foods (cheese, vinegar, alcohol, etc.) This is the path I have found brought me the most amount of relief and I would encourage anyone who is not a vegetarian to follow this approach for a few weeks and see how you feel afterwards.

SF722

This is the antifungal that I am on right now. It is composed of Undecylenic acid (a castor bean oil derivative). Here is some info about what undecylenic acid really is: 1 2
